HR & Payroll Specialist

Miguel is from Bolivia originally and lived in the U.S. for 8 years while obtaining his B.S. and then going on to obtain his MBA from Hamline University and a second Masters from the University of St. Thomas. He has his Organizational Development and HR Generalist Certificates from the U of MN, Professional Project Manager Certificate from the University of St. Thomas as well as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from the University of Dayton.
Miguel worked in HR for Aimia/One10 Marketing in Minneapolis and was transferred to Toronto in June of 2019. He has extensive HR and Payroll experience in both the U.S. and Canada, which is what makes him a perfect fit as our new HR & Payroll Specialist. He will be working hand-in hand with Pa Houa as she transitions to her new role as HR & Benefit Specialist. Miguel is in the process of moving from Toronto to Calgary and is excited to get to know everyone.

How did you find your way to Avtex?

Actually, I used to work for another organization with a current coworker and she really recruited me when Avtex acquired Aria, who was Canadian headquartered because I was based in Toronto working for yet another company. She mentioned the acquisition and from there I interviewed with our team here and then accepted the position.

How would you describe Avtex?

Oh, I love Avtex. When I started everybody was really nice and willing to help and support me, as a new hire everything is just an overload of information and everything is really new. Coming into a new organization, obviously, you have to relearn everything, so I always find support with people that I work closely with on my team and they are always there to help me. I love the flexible work schedule and the unlimited vacation time, I think it's a great organization, honestly, and I am so happy to be part of it.

What would you say to recommend Avtex to peers?

Avtex trusts you. When hiring we want to make sure that you are the right candidate, and the organization is the right place for you. With that being said, that means that if you’re hired, they trust you and they know that you are a great fit for the organization. This is a really great company where you have a lot of great benefits. Obviously, because of COVID, I’ve been working remotely but I still feel like I connected with my coworkers and we keep that relationship going and are building our relationships, so you always feel part of the team. Our culture of connection and relationship building can really help any new hire feel like they’ve been here for years.
